I thought this was a pretty lame "handbook." The pages are just black and white screen shots with a sentence or two underneath. Even my 7 year old doesn't like it. Despite the cover are looking like the original handbooks, this is not an official Minecraft book.
Crappy black and white paperback that does not look anything like the other 'handbook' books from mojang. Waste of money - my kid was disappointed as this was a Christmas present. Terrible - don't purchase.

This is a knock-off book, trying to capitalize on the popularity of the Official hardcover series. Do not be fooled into thinking this is part of the official Mojang series of books that includes the Essential Handbook and others. My son asked for books from the series for Christmas and received this. It has black-and-white photos and some of the pages have just a single sentence. Most of the "secrets" seem to be a list of things added to the 1.8 update that a Minecraft player would probably find out the first day of playing the updated video game or watching youtube videos. There may be a few things a kid could find out by reading the book, but I think it is a cheap trick to publish this right before Christmas and charge more for it than the books in the official series. I guess it won't matter much that I wrote this review, because the author will most likely change the title and continue trying to scam people.
If I could give this zero stars, I would. It's a joke. There are no pictures and the info in the text is basic. It's more like minecraft 101, rather than a "secret" handbook. I will be trying to return this ASAP. What a joke. I think a kid wrote it.
