I loved this book. I thought Ruiz Zafon did an excellent job of describing people, places, and events in a manner that brought them to life, but without drowning the reader in too much text. The imagery was subtle but complete. I felt like I was watching a movie in my mind's eye... I could see the Aldaya mansion, the Hospice of Santa Lucia, Clara's apartment. I could see Nuria's flat and watch her care for Julian. It is easy to connect with the characters and truly feel their emotions. I felt like Daniel with his copy of Carax's Shadow of the Wind; I could barely put it down. This book will surely get a re-read this summer. Hope someone translates another of Ruiz Zafon's works into English.

I write about this book because I loved it, and I want to remember it. In writing, I am forced to reflect upon how much pleasure I derived from reading the book.It is a gothic tale set in 1945, Barcelona. Daniel, the bookseller’s son, is introduced to The Cemetery of Forgotten Books, and makes his selection of one book from the labyrinth to take home and care for. In doing so, he finds himself involved in a real-life mystery. You see, the book he selected was written by a man named Julian Carax, and very well may be the last book in existence by Carax. Someone has been finding the Carax works and destroying them.I love that it is a book about a book! I love the story, but I also love the writing itself, and how Zafon has a style that makes me want to keep reading. The man is a beautiful writer. The “Angel of the Mist” story that begins on page 233 is a haunting touch, as is Maria Jacinta’s detailing of her encounters with Zacarias (begin on page 260), and the storyline of Daniel and Fermin visiting her in the asylum.I loved this first book so much that I immediately started reading the second book in the series, and I am about 200 pages in to “The Angel’s Game,” right now! To think, I found this gorgeous read because of a visit to the Book Warehouse over the July 4 weekend, where I unwittingly purchased the third book in the series first!

5 starsIn 1945 following Spain’s civil war a man takes his ten-year old son Daniel to a library called the Cemetery of Forgotten Books. There Daniel must pick out one book. He chooses called The Shadow of the Wind by Julian Carax. What follows is a lyrical journey of Daniel’s life and adventures throughout his lifelong search for more information about Julian Carax. On his journey through life, Daniel meets all kinds of interesting people including an individual named Lain Coubert (who happens to be the main character in The Shadow of the Wind),who is determined to burn all of Carax’ novels. Is this person the devil? A demon of some sort? He reeks of burning and essentially has no facial features. He threatens Daniel and all that he holds dear for not turning over the Carax book. He also meets an evil fascist police inspector named Fumero who has people tortured and killed in the basement of the police station. He also threatens Daniel and his family and friends. He travels with Fermin, who works at the bookstore with Daniel and his father, to a school at which Julian attended. There they charm and trick one of the clerics who grew up with Julian to talk about him. They learn a great deal about him. Fermin does not miss the parallels between Julian and Daniel’s lives. They also learn that Julian went to school with Fumero. They go to visit Penelope’s (Julian’s lost love), nanny in a run down and filthy care home. She tells them the story of Penelope and Julian’s aborted love affair. Fermin again notices the similarities between Julian and Daniel’s lives. On their way home, they are set upon by Fumero and his thugs. Fermin receives a terrible beating. But this does not stop their search for answers. Daniel comes into the possession of a lengthy letter to him that was written by a woman before she died. And with this letter, the truth comes out; the whole sordid and awful truth. This is my first Carlos Ruiz Zafon novel, but I can promise it won’t be my last. I truly enjoyed this novel. It is very well written and plotted, and totally without any wasted words. That’s a real achievement for a novel this long. The suspense and intrigue start immediately with this book, and the level of excitement continues throughout the novel. The use of language is beautiful and Mr. Zafon really knows how to turn a phrase, as it were.

I usually read non-fiction such as history or biography. Occasionally I read a quick, easy mystery like CJ Boxx or Carl Hiaasen to break up the monotony Since my wife and I are going to Barcelona for our honeymoon I decided to read this book as it came highly recommended. It did not disappoint! I haven't read a complex, lengthy novel in years and I was lamenting the possibility of not being able to finish it before our trip since I usually read a few pages at night before falling asleep. Since I was laid up for a few days with a bad back I was able to finish it in record time (for me). This novel has it all: twisting plot, richly descriptive language, complex characters, and a setting which I am looking forward to visiting (thanks to the walking tour map included in the book). I am looking forward to reading more of Zafon's novels.

You know those books where you pick 'em up and then you discover five hours have passed and you're late getting ready for work? This is that book.Mr Zafon's book is engrossing, the characters are so rich you feel you know them, and can picture them in your mind, even the villains. His descriptions of post-war Barcelona is so deliciously evocative, you can feel yourself riding the trams through the neighbourhoods to follow the characters around in that place and time. When you finish this book, you will feel torn away from friends when you close the cover. However, you can reunite with them again in Zafon's "The Prisoner Of Heaven" which picks up with the characters.HIghly recommend this if you love mystery, adventure and well-drawn characters.

The edition I recieved was full of numerous small errors. However I found the book having appropriate depth for a paramedic Anatomy and Physiology class except that book would often mention anatomic structures and not have them labeled in accompanied pictures. Glossery needs to be significantly expanded. Internet content was not available. My instructor communicated with the publisher who notified us the Internet content was delayed and would be available shortly after our class ended. So that sucked.

Compared to other text books on the subject, this book is crazy small/ thin. When I originally got the package I chuckled. I ended up deciding to take A&P through another provider, and returned the book. I am still blown away at how small the "textbook" was. If you are expecting a full-sized medical textbook, this isn't one. Other than that, I cannot attest to the content as I returned it immediately and went with a different provider.

Excellent textbook I purchased from a private seller on Amazon. I have found that purchasing pre owned texts from others has saved me a large amount of money. Anyone looking for a prehospital anatomy book, this is one that simply can't be beat! Any book from the AAOS is undoubtedly a valued source for accurate information

I bought this slightly used. Other then a couple of words written it it, it was practically new. I have an older edition and this newer one has more information and is organized slightly differently. Glad I got it.

Do not use! Words are mixed up and misspelled throughout, and the Anatomy is straight up wrong! Look at the cover, it's completely backwards! How can you take this book seriously??

Fast shipping as promised!!! The book was in shrink wrap which indicated that it is a new book. So far the book looks good and the code for navigate 2 is present. Thank you!

As described. Using the book for my Paramedic class.

Great book for my class

Angels & Demons, by Dan Brown

From Publishers Weekly

Pitting scientific terrorists against the cardinals of Vatican City, this well-plotted if over-the-top thriller is crammed with Vatican intrigue and high-tech drama. Robert Langdon, a Harvard specialist on religious symbolism, is called in by a Swiss research lab when Dr. Vetra, the scientist who discovered antimatter, is found murdered with the cryptic word "Illuminati" branded on his chest. These Iluminati were a group of Renaissance scientists, including Galileo, who met secretly in Rome to discuss new ideas in safety from papal threat; what the long-defunct association has to do with Dr. Vetra's death is far from clear. Vetra's daughter, Vittoria, makes a frightening discovery: a lethal amount of antimatter, sealed in a vacuum flask that will explode in six hours unless its batteries are recharged, is missing. Almost immediately, the Swiss Guard discover that the flask is hidden beneath Vatican City, where the conclave to elect a new pope has just begun. Vittoria and Langdon rush to recover the canister, but they aren't allowed into the Vatican until it is discovered that the four principal papal candidates are missing. The terrorists who are holding the cardinals call in regarding their pending murders, offering clues tied to ancient Illuminati meeting sites and runes. Meanwhile, it becomes clear that a sinister Vatican entity with messianic delusions is in league with the terrorists. Packing the novel with sinister figures worthy of a Medici, Brown (Digital Fortress) sets an explosive pace as Langdon and Vittoria race through a Michelin-perfect Rome to try to save the cardinals and find the antimatter before it explodes. Though its premises strain credulity, Brown's tale is laced with twists and shocks that keep the reader wired right up to the last revelation. (May) Copyright 2000 Reed Business Information, Inc.

Couldn't make it past 10%CERN director, supposedly a physicist and a man of science behaves like a kid, making far going conclusios from nearly absent evidence. No scientist would ever thought like that.I see a symbol — that must be illuminati. Find them! What? What do you mean illumati do not exist? But the symbols is there, so your words must be a lie!And all that considering, no one ever saw an illumati insigna before, according to Dan Brown. This is a disgustingly primitive and illogical book.

As always, Dan Brown does not fail to entertain and keep the reader on the edge of their seat. Angels and Demons, although written first, was just as exciting as the Da Vinci code. I read this on my Kindle and I was surprised by the number of chapters - 137 - and page numbers were not synced with the paper edition. But, nevermind, the length, it was a page turner and the short chapters did make it go quickly. I read this while on vacation and it was a great way to make a 4 hour plane ride go quickly. It has been a while since I saw the movie, but I think that the movie script did not follow the book as closely as the Da Vinci Code did and there were some minor differences with the characters, but the overall plot was the same. If you are looking for an exciting book that makes you think, gives factual information that maybe you didn't know and thoroughly keeps you involved and entertained, then this is the book for you.

Short chapters that span about one day propel the pace of this book. I didn’t want to put it down. It surprised me, entertained me, and even made me laugh in a couple of spots. I had to suspend disbelief for two events in the last few chapters. Maybe the science supports what happens, maybe it doesn’t, but my skepticism didn’t spoil my enjoyment. No purple prose—just excellent writing.

I read this a long time ago after reading the DaVinci Code.Essentially, this is the same format. Same excellent lead character, who goes on another thrilling, intelligent and twisty adventure! This is kind of like a smarter version of the National Tresure movies. Very entertaining, and highly recommended if the other things listed appeal to you!

This is a great suspenseful, intelligent, thriller that has been well researched by Mr Brown by going to the actual Vatican city in Rome as he does with all his Robert Langdon books, which I also highly recommend. I started with The DaVinci Code and then went on to read the others in the proper order. It doesn't really matter which order you read them in honestly because they're all their own separate adventures that don't really need you to know what happened in the previous books because Mr Brown doesn't make any reference to them in each book but believe me when I tell you if you like to read a good intelligent adventure novel and don't mind that it teaches you a little history while you read it then you'll love Angels & Demons. This is the first book in the Robert Langdon novels and has to do with religious scholar history and symbology throughout but now in a boring way at all I assure you. It sets a pretty good pace in the storytelling so you don't feel like you're struggling to get through the book. I couldn't wait to find out what happened next. The next book is the DaVinci Code then The Lost Symbol and finally his newest book which was released in 2013, Inferno. All great books and all very well researched. A lot of people like to go to the different countries mentioned in these books and see the actual piecesbof art and landmarks mentioned in these books because they're real. Mr Brown has been there. Actually researched these things in person to give the reader a sense of realism like no author I've ever come across. He's the real deal and I think any intelligent reader would love his robert Langdon series.

Details and twists and turns move this plot along and will have you turning pages and not wanting to put it down. The amount of research that must have gone into this book in the locations alone must have been daunting. It turns a work of fiction into a believable, well plotted book.Have fun with this one.

Like many others, I started this series with the DaVinci Code, and after learning about Angels and Demons I tried to read it. The first time I failed and was never able to get into the story. Finally I found the time and inspiration to sit down and finish this book. I was pleasantly surprised. It is not necessary to read this book before reading the DaVinci Code since the story's are quite separate from each other, but after reading this book I was able to understand some of the comments that were said in the second book. I like the way that Landon was written, and the story progressed. I felt as if the story kept me guessing and wishing for more.

I'll admit, it was a little slow going at first. But i also switched genes when picking up this book, so that probably had something to do with it. After that show start, though!! I could hardly put the book down! I was guessing and gasping and loving every second of it. Once it picks up,everything is fast paced in such a perfect, "edge of your seat" kind of way. Thor wasn't the first Langdon book I've read, and it won't be the last, either. (I guessed right on the big thing, by the way, and i was super proud of myself.)

This is a light pop-philosophy book with some interesting ideas. I think it would be a great read for a young person with an inquiring mind who was just getting into deeper philosophical concepts. If you're into philosophy, you'll recognize a lot of ideas here and will have probably seen them explored much deeper in other difficult (and less enjoyable to read) texts. This is the reading equivalet to hanging out with a smart friend over drinks; you're not going to solve any of the universe's great riddles, but you'll point a few out.Adams sprinkles in some good old-fashioned advice that's worth paying attention to. I enjoyed that stuff best of all because it gets philsophy back to the one question that really matters, "how do you live a good life?"

I loved this book.Bought the Kindle version and read it one enthralled, introspective evening. I am a fan of Dilbert and had previously read Adams' great The Dilbert Future which veers from the expected satire of office life and nerds (Scott Adams is clearly one of us) and into the realm of technology, metaphysics, and philosophy. In God's Debris Adams' expands on some of the thoughts expressed in that book.It is important to note that Adams is not trying to persuade anybody of anything with one notable exception. This book is not about God, or religion, or science per se. This book is about critical thinking. This book is about questioning everything, especially our own assumptions. In fact, the opinions expressed here are not even his own, but are what he perceives to be the "simplest explanation" for the universe and it's mysteries as per Occam's razor. It has been days since I read this book and as advertised many of the thoughts and statements presented have stuck in my crawl. I find myself turning those concepts over and over in my mind as I eat my breakfast or commute to work. It would be an understatement to say that this book is food for thought. This is a Saturday night buffet with dessert bar for thought. If you are a thinker, someone who likes big ideas and exploring possibilities then keep an open mind and give this book a try.

Started reading this last night before bed, woke up and finished it at the coffee shop this morning. I'd read a couple chapters, put it down, pick up the debris that was blown out the back of my mind. I'd then pick up the book and start where I left off. I would love to say that this book changed the way I look at things, but it's entirely too soon for that. I will say that it gave me to the tools to change. It's now up to me to apply effort to the tools and make the change happen. I look forward to seeing things in a different light and fully intend to make use of the idea's that have spawned from reading this book. I will be passing this book on to my friends, both in the physical sense and the spreading of the idea's it has given me.

Curiosity about what THIS is all about did not strike me until I reached my 40's and at that time it was just a general, fleeting discomfort with what I thought I knew to be true. It wasn't until we lost our oldest daughter to suicide in 2012 that I began my journey in earnest and out of necessity to remain sane for the rest of our adult children. I made it my occupation to learn as much as I could about the nature of reality, life and death. In the intervening two years, I've read countless books of this nature so the 'shocking' premise of God's Debris was not shocking in the least for me. However, I do believe it has great merit for those people who're just beginning their own journey of discovery. This book is a great point at which to jump off the God Wagon that we've all been so conditioned to accept as the only ride in town. It attempts to wake awaken the consciousness by illustrating the weirdness surrounding scientific declarations proposed as truth and that is a great thing.I don't feel that this is a great fit for anyone who is very well-read on these topics and has been exposed to an abundance of progressive lines of thought regarding the nature of God. I found it well-written and enjoyable albeit very elementary compared to much of what I find myself reading nowadays.

Scott Adams changed my life. His books, writings, musings, blog and tweets changed my mind about everything I thought I knew.Scott Adams might be the smartest man in the universe.

As a student of psychology, philosophy, physics, and religion... I have pondered many of the ideas expressed in this book. However, I have never successfully linked them into a cohesive and optimistic conclusion. This book respectfully offers the reader new perspectives and ideas. I really liked that the book did not talk down to me or try to coerce me into agreement.I'm passing this book onto my dad, who is the person I enjoy theorizing with...
