Having been to New Orleans pre-Katrina many times, I didn't know what to expect when we planned a trip for October 2006. This was very helpful during my recent trip to New Orleans. It was nice to know a little about each place before I decided to go there.

Restaurants that no longer exist such as Gabrielle (which has been closed since the hurricane) are listed as open. In no way is this edition to be taken as fact. Somebody dropped the ball!

I loved this book! I was dragged kicking and screaming through parochial school grades 1 through 8 1/2. This felt like payback for all those awful nuns.What a wonderful book. Chris Moore has a great sense of humor, and I have every intention of reading each and every one of his books. I also plan to give them to everyone I know - including my five siblings...I strongly recommend this book, regardless of your educational background.

A friend who manages a bookstore tried to turn me on to this offering two years ago and it took me this long to get around to reading it. Now I'm kicking myself for not doing so earlier. "Lamb" is alternately touching, funny, thought-provoking and even inspirational. In an era where so much of what is published (or self-published) is utter crap, it's good to know there are still a few authors taking the time to craft brilliant, enjoyable stories.For the first time in a long time, I had a hard time putting a book down. This one cut into my sleep, but it was so worth it! I'm now reading another Moore book, "A Dirty Job," and I'm happy to report it also is excellent. I'm sure I'll be reading everything this author has in print within the next few months. One caveat, however: if you're a person with ... mmm ... something less than flexible religious convictions who's easily offended, you may want to give this one a miss. It's intended -- at least in part -- as parody, but I'm guessing not everyone is going to get the joke.

As a Catholic I had some "hang ups" when I first read it. I even went as far to put it away and not read it anymore cause I was just SOOO sure I was right about things. I told the friend that recommended it to me that is was certainly NOT my cup of tea. He is not particularly spiritual or Christian. He told me this was the book that GOT him to read the whole bible. He laughed and cried through the whole book "Lamb" he said....So I put my "thoughts" on a shelf and read it. I laughed and I cried. I am heart broke the book is finished. The kind of heart broke that you feel when your favorites TV series has its last show of its last season and no more will be made EVER. How WILL you go on is how one feels. This book has gotten me to STUDY the bible more. When I come upon certain stories in the bible that were talked about in this book "Lamb", the stories Biff, Jesus childhood friend refers too, I laugh and remember Biffs spin on it cause he was supposedly there and he told it His way. It gives me the feeling of belonging that I feel I know something that no one else knows. I huger to read more of the bible now just to keep that feeling. Yes I know which is the real and which is from the book Lamb. I just like feeling of belonging now

This story tries to imagine the big gap that occurs between Jesus' birth and his the years of public ministry. Told from the modern day perspective of Jesus' best friend, the book portrays the Messiah as that perfect kid you couldn't even hate because he is just too good. The book doesn't espouse any philosophy or dogma, but it also refrains from making fun of the beliefs of Judaism or Christianity in anything but an affectionate way. If you have an affection for religion without taking it too seriously, you might find this an enjoyable read. I sure did.

I am a devout Christian...I also appreciate good writing and a person's effort and sense of humor. Moore has clearly done a lot of research into the Jewish ways of life and all sorts of things in the time period when Jesus lived. He said mixed it with some imagination and well meant humor. I loved the book! He went wild with it and i loved every minute of it...i know a lot of Christians might call it blasphemous but I think to that Jesus would say, "relax, take a chill pill"

I expected to spend a few weeks lazing through Lamb...instead I devoured it in three days. The humor and humanity was impactful at every turn. It is a work of fiction but it humanized Jesus nicely toying neither with his legacy or legend. The book seemed to be very well-researched and pithy. Suitable for all except the fundamentally pious. Don't skip the Afterword.

I do not write reviews, ever, but dear god, everyone needs to read this book. I've never felt so strongly about a novel before. Regardless of your religious belief's, this book is 10/10 for you. Lamb is one of those books that makes you think a little differently once you finish it and leaves you with one of the largest book hangovers of all time. In the name of all that is holy, read about Biff and Josh's adventures together. Please. Learn about the first draft of the Mt of Olives speech, how bunnies became associated with Easter, the things to look for when picking a harlot, and of course, how Josh became the Messiah he was to so many people. This book is everything. I also own and love a lot of books, but Lamb is the only one where I own a hard copy, an e-book, and the audiobook. It's that important to me.

This book was so funny I died, and raised again. No seriously, unlike me, it's dead funny. If I could recommend anyone a humorous book, it would be this one. It has just the right amount of blasphemy and "reality", keeping it firmly grounded. Having read the bible, I don't find it any-less unlikely this happened, than Jesus walking on water... Well I do, but it is an entertaining thought, isn't it? And that is what makes this book so great! It COULD have happened. Do yourself a favor and try this book, it may give you a new sort of outlook on religion; a very funny one.That said, Jesus and Biff grew on me, and I'm left with a fondness for this idea.

Duntemann likes to give us all the background needed before we get into coding assembly. It's helpful, but it feels like he goes a little too over the top in giving us the foundation right off the bat. It takes him until the very end of Chapter 5 to start actually teaching assembly.I will say that all of the foundation he gives in the first 5 chapters is interesting and necessary (although maybe not right off the bat). Reading this book after taking an assembly / computer organization class in college, I can say that this book provides nearly the same information, only more clearly, for a much cheaper price. His writing is easy to understand and follow along with, but sometimes he gets too far off on his metaphors (in the first few chapters) to the point where you're actually just focusing on trying to learn his metaphors rather than the real information he's trying to convey. One such example is his "Alien Bases" Chapter 2, where he is trying to compare base number systems to martian counting with unintelligible symbols and less fingers on their hands than us. It's a good metaphor, but it's taken too far.I recommend this book to someone who is willing to learn assembly from the ground up, and wants to understand all of the inter-workings of the computer and how it processes the assembly that you will be writing. However, if you want to learn the assembly instructions themselves, I would recommend that you get at least one more supplemental book on Assembly Language, that is more specific to that purpose, to read after the completion of this book. This book is not the quick and easy way to learn assembly, but it IS the right way to start out.

If you truly want to learn assembler you HAVE to learn memory addressing and this book will absolutely teach you that. After you have read, studied, experimented and understand the main concept of memory addressing (base + index), etc in assembler everything else becomes so much easier. THIS book will definitely get you well on your way. I think it should be a first book in anyone's learning arsenal. Then you can move onto other, more advanced books. Keep in mind the author uses Ubuntu Linux with NASM but similar enough to MASM in Visual Studio in my opinion.

Still relevant after all this time and pertinent for anyone learning Intel 32-bit architecture specific assembler. Code examples (primarily the labs) can appear campy at times, but deliver appropriately being concerned with progressive, modular design philosophies. Additionally, Duntemann sticks to the assembler ideologies of module development rather than using abstraction/poly-morphism (with proprietary libraries) allowing the reader an opportunity to learn rather than decipher subject matter. Globally, the content is on point and covers much ground addressing issues that every assembler developer will immediately face whether developing low-level or optimizing high-level libraries.Based on numerous factors and an established curve, regarding the sparse nature of content on the subject, feel the five star rating deserved.

This is a GREAT book for learning Assembly Language. If you really want to get down to the metal so to speak this is the right book. For someone who likes to know how computer programming works Assembly Language is a must. I don't have a technical background so I needed to learn from the ground up with some hand holding along the way. In my personal opinion learning Assembly before learning higher level languages makes sense. The higher level languages do so much for you that although they allow you do do more with less work they hide what is happening behind the scenes. If you know the Assembly then you know what's happening at a lower level when you create loops, arrays, strings, etc. The higher level languages will then make more sense and seem more intuitive. I've been trying to learn C as well and this book is a great complement to a book on C. If you're an aspiring hacker you'll find yourself breaking down code in a debugger so understanding registers, assembly instructions, and memory layout is a must. This book provides a solid foundation covering binary, hex, memory layout, registers, flags, system calls, the stack & the heap, how the assembler works, op codes, branching, jumps, linking, and more. If you like to learn then give this book a shot.

I ordered the latest edition even though I don't particularly need to learn at the level Duntemann is teaching. I enjoy his writing and wanted to see how he updated the book to deal with LINUX and modern x86 assembly language. As per usual it's well written. If I ever write a tutorial book I will reread this to remind myself how it should be done.The only (minor) negative observations I have are:1) The book only addresses 32 bit programming in detail, but 32 bit programs will run in 64 bit without change.2) Duntemann dives into open source software and teaches/recommends a particular debugger that is no longer being developed. Most of the commands will map to other debuggers (it's all GDB underneath) but this weakens an otherwise excellent book.Highly recommended if you want to learn assembly language on LINUX.

A fun little book about horror on television from the 1950s to around 2010, but I can’t fathom how the author could leave out the excellent show Ghost Story, also known as Circle of Fear. Even though it only ran for one season, the show had several memorable episodes that warrant mention. The television show Thriller with Boris Karloff as host also strangely gets short shrift while episode after episode of Tales From the Crypt is discussed.Aside from that, the book does discuss a lot of interesting programs from throughout the years and offers some suggestions that I will certainly look into.

Great book! Loved it!

This book resurrected great TV memories, especially from some of the late (and much lamented) Rod Serling shows The Twilight Zone and Night Gallery. A bit too much Britsnark here and there but that's part of the fun too. I've added some of the recommended shows from the Beeb, etc to my wishlist. Thanks!

The board book version has been abridged considerably from the much-loved original, to focus exclusively on our zoo animal wannabe's ability to change his spots' color (to teach color words). It feels like there's a lot missing, but it still has a coherent story and preserves many of the clever rhymes, so if you're looking for something more suited to the attention span and book-chewing preferences of a baby or younger toddler, this is a good bet. But buy the full version once they're old enough to sit through it and not gnaw on the pages- it's a classic for a reason!

We have the full version of this story already. My daughter was requesting that I read it every night. The full version is a bit longer so I like this little board book because it is a shorter version and focuses on the main character changing the color of his spots. It's better for my daughter's little hands and she even tries to read it her self while pointing out the colors that he changes his spots. Great buy!

This book is one of my 2 year old's favorites. We always have to clap along with the kids in one of the final scenes near the end of the story. I think the small size is also part of the attraction of this book. Parents who want a true unabridged version of Dr. Seuss books should not buy this book or any in this board book series expecting to find that. Rather, it is just the right length for the younger preschool and toddler ages.

My five year old daughter loves this book. It doesn't feel long or winding like some of the other dr sues books as the story stays with the same main charecter all the way through. There is a climax to the story and a solid ending which I can appreciate as it makes it easier to read to her and finish. It teaches colors also. Apart from the main charecter all the elements in the story are people things and places that really exist so it's easier for her to relate to. Over all one of our favorite dr seuss books.

Good, but not great. The story is kinda funny and creative for a young one and I enjoyed it myself a little...It's a little too short though so great for a quick bedtime story but not for a more substantial afternoon.I would say this is great for kids between 3-5 years old.

This is a small (about 4" by 5") and greatly abridged (by about one half) version of Lopshire's original book. Calling it an "adaptation" doesn't really describe what you get. On the other hand, for a four year old who hasn't seen the original, it's still a cute story in the sing song rhyming style (like Dr. Seuss) that will help her reading development. Perhaps for a few dollars more you get the complete original.

My son loves this story, he even has the stuffed animal to go with it! This is definitely one of those really sweet stories that I read as a child and am now enjoying reading it to my own children. Its a story or a unique little creature who dreams of being in the zoo, longing to be wanted and accepted. When all along he really just needed to his unique self! The whole book is in color and in rhyme. A simple story and clear message to just be you!

This book is a childhood favorite of mine and I always give it as a gift for young kids. It was really exciting to find out that this book is still a favorite for kids today :) I bought as a birthday gift for my 2 year old niece, and probably have gifted it to at least 3 others with kids in the past. I found out she was already a fan but they only had the board book so everyone was excited to have to full story! I highly recommend this book to any kid as it is an excellent story and fun to read.
