I got the Kindle version, there were no graphics, no pictures no illustrations. I don't know if that's because it was on the Kindle or not but certain things work better with pictures or illustrations. For example, the differences between certain breeds, how to trim the nails, etc. So that's 1 star gone right there. There was absolutely no information in this book that could not have been gotten for free at any of the Guinea Pig websites. 2 stars gone for that. It's really only a VERY basic introduction suitable for someone who doesn't have access to the internet and/or has never owned a guinea pig before. Another star gone.I gave 1 star because it was cheap and had a kindle addition available. It took me about a half hour to read the entire thing and then I deleted it because there was no information in it that made it worth holding on to.
We've had our guinea pig for 4 months now & it's been a nightmare! I ask myself daily "why are you hand scooping piggie poop"Then... the little fella gives me nose kisses & I melt.Had I known the joy and reward given in caring for one of these little creatures, I'd have adopted one years ago.Guinea pigs take A LOT OF HARD WORK. Sadly, most just see a cute face in a pet store & take it home with NO knowledge of what care is needed. This book was a quick read & a life saver. So many good notes and info that guinea owners should read BEFORE they bring one home.
This is an EXCELLENT book: thorough, detailed, and accurate. You'll find information most books don't provide, including wise warnings (do NOT buy an exercise wheel for a guinea pig), and good tips for training your guinea pig, which makes life with a guinea pig much more fun! The reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is that it has no pictures. Pictures are less important than excellent information, but still, we (buyers of pet books) love to look at them. :-)
This book is filled with great information about guinea pigs, but it has one drawback -- no pictures or illustrations of any kind. As I bought the book for school, and the guinea pig is a class pet, I'm especially disappointed that the book includes exclusively text.
Great intro book for a new guinea pig owner who is 12. He learned some very helpful info.
Helped me understand a lot and helped me know what to do in certain situations
It has been probably 15 years since I last owned guinea pigs and so I wanted a book to read as a refresher for me but also lots of good information for my 8 year old son who is just now learning about them. My 4 year old daughter might be interested in some of the information too however there are no pictures like most of the other reviewers state so I went ahead and ordered another book more geared towards her. This book was a great read and though there were a few repetitive parts, it was overall lots of useful information. We will be getting our 2 new guinea pig babies in just over a week when they are ready to leave mom and I am so excited to be able to teach them tricks. I did not even know you could teach them tricks!
I purchased this book to read with my 5 and 3 year old. It is not kid friendly reading and there are no pictures to interact little ones. If you are looking for a brief informational text as a reference for guinea pig breeds and care, this text is fine. Other than that, I found all this info easier in a previous google search.
Does not go too deep. Just the part of "how to train the guinea pigs" impressed me.
